Bishop Jones as a child was excited to be in the presence of God’s people, and at age 12 joined the St. Joseph Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Kinston, North Carolina under the pastorate of the late Elder J. M. Rhoe. He later joined the St. Mark Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Goldsboro, North Carolina under the pastorate of Dr. James L.
In 1970, Bishop Jones began his preach life on the third Sunday of April at the St. Joseph Church of Christ, and was duly ordained as an Elder in October of 1970. Bishop Jones declares that he “Moves By The Power of God”. God moved him into the pastorate first at St. James Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Durham, North Carolina for twelve (12) years.
Having recived the needed experience God moved Bishop Jones to Grainger Chapel Church of Christ, where he remains to date. God gave him a vision – complete the edifice that had already begun and to move into it; to add a Dining Facility and Baptismal Pool; to increase the Sundays of Worship to every Sunday – Better to serve God and serve the community.
Upon completion of those items, Bishop Jones was led by God and chosen by the assembly members to serve the Southern Assembly as the Presiding Bishop. He was consecrated on Saturday, January 20, 2001 and retired in 2018 after 17 years of faithful service.
This visionary leader has set mandates for the recruitment of churches, ministers and ministries. Finally, Bishop Jones has fulfilled his goal of restoring the Southern Assembly to the General Assembly of the Churches of Christ, Disciples of Christ.
